Tips to handle your child patient
A child perceives the dental operatory as an alienated place. Visualize the picture of strangers in various uniforms easily known to most dental professionals as aprons prancing around in a busy dental practice. The environment is most of the times dominated by certain strong odours due to methods of cold sterilisation and fumigation. Certain materials used leave behind an acetone-based or an alcohol-based smell even after their disposal. This may be complemented by an expressive emotion (a huge cry) left in the air and of course, ringing in the ears of all clinic personnel. Needless to say, if a child patient visiting the dental clinic for the first time is exposed to these scenarios, the pediatric dentist definitely needs to brace himself/herself for the joyride coming up.
